Scheduling School Visits to NOMA

The Museum's guided tours are very popular and our schedule fills quickly. Please make reservations as early as possible. Tours must be booked a minimum of four weeks in advance.

For tour reservations, please contact the Education Department at 504-658-4128 or by e-mail at education@noma.org. When booking a tour, please have the following information readily available:

  • date and time of requested tour and an alternate date and time
  • name of your school, address, phone number and principal's name
  • name, home telephone number and e-mail address of teacher who will be accompanying students
  • grade level and number of students
  • number of adult chaperones (1 adult per 10 children for docent guided tour; 1 adult per 5 children for self-guided tour)
  • theme of tour to be scheduled (if applicable)

Guided Tours
The Museum offers tours to grades 1 - 12. Grades 1 - 4 are limited to 35 students per tour; grades 5-12 are limited to 60 students per tour. Guided tours can be scheduled through mid-May 2008 and are offered at the following times:

  • Grades 1-4
    Wednesdays - Fridays: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • Grades 5-12
    Wednesdays - Fridays: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Chaperones
One chaperone per 5 children for self-guided tours OR one chaperone per 10 children for docent guided tours. Chaperones must be 18 years or older. Any group without the proper number of chaperones will not be admitted to the Museum.

Name Tags
Students must prepare name tags with their first names in large block letters before they arrive at NOMA. Name tags allow docents to provide students with a more personal experience.

Unexpected Delays
If you are delayed on your scheduled tour day, please notify the Education Department immediately at 504-658-4128. Because of our schedule, any class arriving more than half an hour late will not be able to receive a docent-guided tour. You may, however, escort your students through the Museum on your own as a self-guided group.

Dining Facilities
There are no facilities for eating school lunches in the Museum. Beautiful, historic City Park is a great place for picnic lunches.

Cancellations
Prompt notification of your cancellation enables other classes to schedule a visit. Please contact the Education Department immediately at 504-658-4128.
